The Use of Experts Consultation Paper (397 words)
The Legal Services Commission Consultation paper looks at some important concerns on the quality, cost and procedures in respect of the use of expert witnesses in publicly funded cases. However, these issues are also under consideration by other sections of the English justice system. It is important that all experts consider taking this early opportunity to record their input on the LSC proposals - whether or not they do publicly funded work. We have provided several resources that help expert witnesses more quickly appreciate the issues.

Science on trial (1111 words)
The recent spate of ‘expert bashing’ by the media and Establishment has often been based on inaccurate reporting of the Sally Clark and Angela Cannings cases. The Court of Appeal found that the major problem in the Cannings cases was the way the court handled disputed expert evidence. This article explains why scientific evidence, if handled inappropriately, causes problems in limited circumstances and suggests a procedural way around the problem.
