Retention policy should respect the source of a document

Aside from any duty owed to the court or another party, an expert will have a personal interest in the retention of papers. The expert will have an eye to possible judicial criticism or accusations of professional negligence or misconduct. Consequently, experts will wish to ensure that, should they be called upon to do so, they are able to demonstrate compliance with their duty to the court, they acted in accordance with their instructions and they reached their conclusions having exercised sound professional principles.
