Dr Iyer is an advanced cancer interventionalist who has logged more than 200 medical thoracoscopies and 400 advanced bronchoscopy procedures. He is competent to comment on all aspects of respiratory medicine, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis, emphysema, lung cancer, cystic fibrosis/bronchiectasis, pneumonia and pleural effusion. He is also competent to comment on polysomnography and complex non-respiratory sleep disorders.

All aspects of paediatric respiratory medicine, namely any condition that affects a child’s lungs and airways (breathing tubes/windpipe). Areas of interest include asthma, chronic cough, recurrent chest infections, newborn breathing problems/reflux, allergy-related disorders, noisy breathing/stridor, bronchiolitis, sleep-related breathing disorder, paediatric bronchoscopy, bronchiectasis, congenital lung disease, cystic fibrosis, and rare lung disorders. Dr Kosmidis sees a large number of patients with infection, including aspergillosis, tuberculosis, sepsis, infection in the immunocompromised, post-operative infection and fever of unknown origin in outpatient clinics and inpatient ward rounds. He has been Tuberculosis Clinical Lead and Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy Lead in Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, and regularly provides advice nationwide to clinicians referring patients to the National Aspergillosis Centre.

Dr Machin has interests in clinical microbiology and clinical virology. In particular, he has expertise in the diagnosis and management of viral infections in sexual health, solid organ and haematological transplant and critically ill patients. Additionally, in the diagnosis and management of emerging viral infections, having been involved in the recent COVID-19 pandemic and Monkeypox outbreak. He has a specialist interest in infection prevention and control of viral infections in hospital settings.

Dr Bianchi has expertise in general respiratory medicine (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, breathlessness, cough), with a special interest in sleep-disordered breathing (e.g. sleep apnoea, respiratory failure), pulmonary fibrosis (scarring) and bronchiectasis (chronic lung infection). Dr Fonseka has a specialist interest in pleural disease and has sat on the British Thoracic Society national guideline committees for both mesothelioma and pleural disease. Dr de Fonseka is heavily involved with pleural intervention such as local anaesthetic thoracoscopy, indwelling pleural catheters, intercostal chest drains and diagnostic/therapeutic pleural aspirations.
