Subspeciality interest is in foot and ankle surgery, including sport injuries, bunion surgery, lower limb severe trauma and bone infections related to metalwork, high arch, forefoot deformities and Achilles tendonitis and tendon injuries using both open or minimally invasive surgery (MIS) techniques. Also hallux valgus (bunions), hallux rigidus (big toe arthritis), toe replacement surgery, tibial fractures, hip fractures, knee fractures, distal radius fractures, elbow fractures and forearm fractures.

Mr Barkatali has a special interest in sports injuries and trauma-related pathology of the knee, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)/multi-ligament reconstruction, meniscal repair/resection, patello-femoral instability, Medial Patellofemoral Ligament (MPFL) reconstruction and tibial surgery for degenerative pathology.
